I++ DME is steadily gaining more importance for car manufactures and their supplier.

I++ DME is based on an initiative of European car manufacturers (Audi, BMW, Daimler-Chrysler, Volkswagen and Volvo).

The goal of these group was, to break the historical connection between CMM (coordinate measuring machine) and inspection software.

For a certain application it should be assured that the optimal inspection software with the best suitable CMM can be combined over a vendor neutral interface.

Furthermore, the responsibility for the accuracy of the measurement system should clearly be defined.

Concept

I++ DME divides the measurement systems into two parts, the CMM (Server) and the inspection software (Client). The responsibilities of these two parts are clearly organized. The Server is responsible for controlling the CMM, the operating of all peripheral devices (rotary table, probe head, probe changer), the calibration of the available probes as well as the compensation of systematic errors. The Server is responsible for the accuracy of the measurement system.

On the other side the Client is in charge of the measuring, evaluation, logging and the creation and management of the part programs. I++ DME is a vendor neutral interface between CMM and inspection software. I++ DME must not be confused with DMIS, the vendor neutral inspection programming language.

• Standard inspection software in your company, for different CMMs and brands, decreases the costs for training and increases the flexibility deployment of the staff.
• Inspection programs are portable and can be used on CMMs from different vendors.
